The Ministry of Local Government has launched Local Economic Growth Support (LEGS) project that will up lift rural flocks from abject poverty.
The project will to be implemented in 12 districts will address water for production, agriculture production, infrastructure and food security.
According to the Minister of Local Government,Tom Butime, the $43million project funded by Islamic Development Bank will benefit 12 districts namely Aleptong, Bunyagambo, Kumi, Kibuku, Nakasero, Gomba, Katakwi, Tororo, Adjumani, Nyende, Luwero, Rukungiri.
Butime while launching the project in Kampala cautioned district officials to monitor the funds to ensure there is service delivery.
“Please my colleagues from the beneficiary districts monitor the project and ensure that the funds are spent well so that the project achieves its intended objectives,” he said.
Butime also advised local authorities to invest in building business partnerships with private sector to beef up revenue generation for the districts saying the money sent from central government is not enough to scale up service delivery.
local Economic growth support project is a follow up of the concluded second millennium villages project that was funded by Islamic Development Bank.
