She said this while commenting on the boda boda registration campaign headed by the director of Kampala. She says they also want a smart city, however ,not by suffocating the voiceless.
“We are not against having a smart city, we treasure Kampala. What we are against is the government trying to suffocate the voiceless. And total disregard of the law and doing things without our input.”
Nyanjura says since 2006, government has been streamlining boda bodas but unsuccessfully.
“Streamlining boda-boda operations is something that has been there since 2006 when KCCA was still KCC and the person who stopped the operation was the president. He usually does that during election time when he is looking for votes.”
Nyanjura thinks elites are not putting into consideration those who have the hand-to-mouth economy going on with them.
However, some members of the public think there should be a proper framework for boda boda riders.
“What’s critical is to have a proper regulatory framework that gets them well organized, supported & protected while they make a living from the cities/towns but at the same time allows for observance & respect of law & order, security while taking due care for the wellness of all,” a one Moses Atai said.
Boda Boda Registration Is Just Cash Bonaza
In a similar story by NEWSLEXPOINT.com, Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, said the Boda Boda registration is just a cash Bonanza for certain people. He said the amount of money they are asking is too much for the cause.
“They are collecting UGX 65,000 from each boda boda rider with no sanctioning of the law. Nobody’s approval.
