Kankwanzi Margaret, 21 year old, a Makerere University tourism student beat her other 36 contestants to win this year’s edition of Miss Tourism.

She will travel to United States of America for tour and also represent Uganda in Malaysia for the global miss tourism event.
Although Ayen Emily from Karamoja and Lebulaura from Adjumani were most creative and bright, the former emerged first runner up and later second runner respectively.
The prestigious grand final event on Friday was married with Vuvuzelas, ululations and screams as beauty fanatics sheered up their best contestants all night long but lost to the judges to choose the top queen.
State minister for tourism Godfrey Kiwanda urged the beauties to market Uganda and preach tourism in a bid to promote Uganda outside Uganda.
He also blasted politicians miss representing Uganda negatively by carrying out demonstrations portraying Uganda is not safe and peaceful.
“Politicians should avoid demonstrating in Kampala streets, they affect our virgin tourism sector yet we have the best tourism attractions in the world that we would register massive tourist visits per year, ”Kiwanda said.
He advised politicians to preach words that promote the country other than negative publicity to the world to shun visiting the country.
He said number of tourists has increased adding that Uganda has sold off gorilla permits, but government was working on strategies to achieve 4 million tourist target.
The event was fully sponsored by Ethiopian Airlines, Movit products under their brand Radiant, Uganda WildLife Authority, Uganda Wild Life Authority, Serena Hotel and National Forest Authority.
The event was launched in May where different girls participated in the competition from different regions before being chosen from different regions for the final edition and boot camp training for the grand finals.
