The locals of Kabukungu Village, Kalungi District seriously demands for a police report explaining how their colleague died inside the police cell.
Mr Kaweesi who was resident of Kabukungu Village, Kalungu town council died in detention on Saturday following his arrest after failure to put on a face mask as a measure to limit the spread of covid-19.
The deceased’s brother Mr Muweesi Ahmed said Kaweesi died after being tortured whilst in custody.
We were informed that my brother was tortured by police men until he became unconscious, they rushed him to Kalungu Health Centre III where he was treated and later took him back to the police cell where he died,’said Muweesi Ahmed.
The police handed over the deceased’s body to family members and was buried on Monday,’he added.
Ms Nantabiro Margaret, deceased’s aunt requested the IGP Mr Okoth Ochola Martin to launch special investigations into the incident, insisting that Kaweesi didn’t kill himself as being alleged by police officers.
All we need is justice. Someone cannot be killed because of just a face mask,’she said.
The Kalungu District Police Commander, Mr Okello Charles said that Kaweesi committed suicide inside police cell, according to Daily Monitor.
