Atuhaire was an expectant mother whose body was found in the house lying in a pool of blood with a kitchen knife just next to her.
According to neighbors, the couple had several misunderstandings ever since the government announced a lockdown due to the deadly virus. Their fights resulted from the man’s failure to put food on table for his family.
They revealed that he asked his girlfriend to go back to his parents until the government eases the pandemic lockdown, but she kept a deaf ear.
Police spokesperson for Rwenzori West Mr Twesige Vincent noted that the man was found trying to kill himself. He was rushed to Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.
“I appeal to the members of the community not to use excessive force while solving marital problems. Instead, they need to report to the village chairperson and police to solve their misunderstandings. The suspect after getting treatment will be taken to court and charged accordingly,” Mr Vincent said.
During an interview with the suspect, he narrated that he asked Atuhaire to abort her 3-months old pregnancy, but she refused.
The suspect is current admitted in hospital as police launch investigations in to the incident.
