While appearing on NBS Sport, Hon Mpuuga said that the country has to heavily invest in sports. This is because almost 3 quarters of the population are youths.
The Nyendo-Mukungwe Constituency MP said that the problem in Uganda is that sports is confined to only football. However, there is need for capable people to push sports in the country as it’s a big industry.
“If you are a country with a population of 75% below the age of 35 years, then you definitely have to invest in sports. Let’s support sports from the grassroots if we expect results from it.
The problem with us in Uganda, when we talk about sports we only think about football. We need to get the right people to push sports in this country because it is a very big industry,” said Hon Mpuuga.
Further, Mathias Mpuuga said that there should be a structure to reward all sports personalities who represent the country. This shouldn’t be done on the basis of their performance.
It should be recalled that Muhoozi a while ago during his birthday celebrations recommended this idea as one of those for developing the country.
However, critics were quick to trash his suggestion saying that it’s very lame. This is because there are lots of sectors that need to be invested in rather than ‘leisure’. It’s however surprising that even Mpuuga sees this as a solution.
Not clear if the critics will now embrace Mpuuga’s idea and pay a blind eye to how they crucified Muhoozi.
