Uganda’s most decorated club has faced a number of turbulent years in the past and the situation has continued to deteriorate.
However, in a bid to revamp and establish their dominance again, the Jogos decided to wipe out their old leadership. In the proposed changes, the club is going back in the hands of the supporters and will be community-owned.
The contestants for this leadership position
They will therefore take to the polls on 28th August 2021 to elect a new president and board members. Among those contesting for the presidency is Hon Ssegona, Denis Mbidde and Joseph Kizito.
While appearing on NBS TV, Hon Ssegona said that Villa under his tenure will have to acquire good players and maintain them. He also said that he has intentions of setting up a well-facilitated academy to support the club.
“It is my plans to make SC Villa great again and to have good players at the club. And look after those players well. To have a great football club, you must have a very good academy producing good players. This is one of the things I have to work on.” Hon Medard Ssegona said.
The legislator also added that one of his reasons for contesting is to reunite the fans and the club by reigniting the bond.
He went ahead to request people not to judge him by the mistakes of the previous leaders but give him a chance.
With Villa having to host their home games at different venues, a permanent stadium has been one of their main problems.
Ssegona said that he will come up with a plan after 2 months in office to see a way forward.
