FUFA president Eng. Moses Magogo has decided to take it upon himself to call out every influential figure who is invested in foreign football much more than local football.
This time around, he decided to call out former Police AIGP, Asan Kasingye.
It should be noted that Kasingye is an ardent Arsenal supporter. He’s actually obsessed with the English Premier League side and has been a fan since the 1990s when he visited the UK.
Apparently, Magogo recently launched a campaign to entice Ugandans to prioritize their own football clubs over European ones. According to him, it’s better to build their own clubs over those that don’t even know of their existence.
He was left impressed with Sanyuka TV presenter, Sandra Lian who heeded his call and wore the jersey of one of the Uganda Premier League clubs to her work station. She even went ahead to call upon people to start supporting local clubs.
According to Magogo, it just takes local support to create footballing superstars in the nation. Therefore, it will all start with the locals in a bid to build their own clubs and not anyone else.
“Thank you so much @SandraLian6 for supporting Ugandan club football more so back home unlike @AKasingye who is rooting for movies of foreign football. If we all supported our clubs, we can create an opportunity for Okello, Byaruhanga, Muzaale, Kirungi, Mukasa, Onzivu etc. Next time use zakayo the touch will be on,” he said.
Well for a long time, FUFA has called upon Ugandans to prioritize supporting Ugandan football. Several changes were made such as shifting local games to midweek fixtures. This was in a bid to accommodate fans who love watching European football over the weekend.
Some people and football clubs such as Kitara FC from Bunyoro are embracing this move while others are yet to.
