Mother And Daughter Graduate With PhDs From Same University

A 58 year old mother identified as Mugalavai Anne and her 33 year old daughter Kavulavu Leen from Vihiga County Kenya have graduated with PhDs from Moi University.

Leen and her mother were very excited after graduating together at Moi University Eldoret campus.

Reports from the Standard indicates that the young lady graduated with PhD in History whilst her mother graduated in Information Science.

The quinquagenarian woman said she was very happy after sharing such a phenomenal milestone together with her first-born daughter who was celebrating her success as well.

“I am exhilarated for completing the journey with my firstborn daughter,” she said.

The 58 year old woman said she enrolled for Information Science degree at Egerton University in 2004. She was 42 years by then.

I was the oldest student in my class, but I managed to scoop a first class. I was employed as a librarian at school but was juggling family and motherhood as well,’ she said.

After succeeding in her undergraduate, Mrs. Anne enrolled for Masters Degree at Moi University in 2008 where she graduated in 2012.

 ‘The following year, I enrolled in my PhD. I am glad that I have now completed,” she said.

Mrs Anne who is now a lecturer at Rongo University said she never gave up from the start. She did not qualify for university after her form 6.

Surprisingly, her 2nd-born daughter is also pursuing a PhD whilst her 3rd-born is also studying Master’s degree.

In separate news, the man, identified as Dennis Ogola holds a Diploma and a Bachelor’s degree in procurement and supply chain management. He has also over time accumulated more than 30 certificates from various institutions across the country.

The Kenyan Master’s degree finalist resorted to selling eggs on the streets  of Nairobi for survival. This was after his efforts to secure a job hit a snag.
