Until recently, she has been a member of the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC), which she joined in March 2019.
The director of communication at Parliament, Chris Obore, last evening confirmed Dr. Patricia’s appointment.
He said the appointments committee had scheduled to meet on Friday to vet the new IGG, Beti Kamya, and the two deputies.
The committee will also vet the new chairperson of UHRCU, Mariam Wangadya, who until recently was Deputy IGG.
About Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria, she worked with the Ministry of Works and Transport before joining the UHRC. There, she served as a policy and legal advisor. She mainly focused on legislative drafting for transport policies and laws.
Dr. Patricia holds a doctor of Laws in international human rights and democratization of the same university. She also holds a bachelor of law from Makerere University.
On top of that, she has a post-graduate diploma in legal practice from the Law Development Centre. She is also an enrolled advocate of the High Court of Uganda.
She also has a number of written publications. These include; ‘’Unpacking the Right to Participation for the Batwa Indigenous Minorities in Uganda, 2014 EAJPHR Vol20’’; ‘’The Best Practices on State Reporting,’’ among others.
She is also credited on an international level for her role as a review expert representing Uganda on the legal committee of the International Maritime Organization.
