Museveni Introduces Tax On Social Media Platforms

Social media populary known for showbiz, trending gossip and news circular could be taxed in Uganda according to Museveni.

Museveni ordered the Ministry Of finance to introduce a new tax on social media platforms in Uganda.

Social media tax is introduced as a method of soaring revenue in the country.

The President asked questioned why URA and the Treasury are not collecting excise duty on airtime, or taxing voice conversations. But rather choose to depend on “false declarations by telecom companies.”

On the Top Platforms,  ie whatsapp, facebook, twitter, the president is suggesting a tax of Shs 100 to be charged on every sim card that uses them typically.

This, he estimates, will generate about Shs. 400 billion additional revenue, according to the estimated time that Ugandans spend on these sites.
