This meeting will be at the White House in Washington DC in December. The two leaders expected to discuss among other things, the security situation in Africa.
It should be noted that the Chairperson of the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Robert Menendez, has been petitioning Biden to withdraw Museveni’s invite.
This was after another petition from National Unity Platform that showed Museveni as a human rights violator. Menendez asked that Museveni be regarded as an outcast in the USA. This will include doing away with several dealings with the Ugandan president.
This however doesn’t seem to have damaged the relationship at least that is how it looks like. United States Representative to the United Nations (UN), Linda Thomas-Greenfield paid a courtesy visit to Museveni and assured him that they still have good relations with him.
Apparently, there is still a strong partnership with the Ugandan president.
The opposition especially NUP is probably yet to react about this. This is especially because they invested a lot of energy in it to ensure it doesn’t actually happen.
