For the NUP supporters that got court marshaled, they were arrested because of throwing petrol bombs at cars.
There are many NUP supporters that were arrested in 2021 during election campaigns. They have never been released up to date and NUP president Bobi Wine has been demanding their release.
According to Gen Felix Kulayigye, he had heard some opposition leaders saying NUP supporters were arrested without doing anything wrong.
But there is proof that these people were violent. Everyone that was arrested did something bad and they are working on giving them punishments that suit what they did.
“I would like to go on record, no one is in the court marshall because he or she is a NUP supporter, no, not at all. All these are individuals who were arrested for throwing petrol bombs at cars,” he said.
It should be noted that there are those who were released. They complained about being tortured and asked why they support NUP. This therefore makes Kulayigye’s words a little twisted.
If they had arrested these people for throwing petro bombs as he claims, why would they be asked bout supporting NUP. It should be noted that supporting a political party of choice in Uganda is a right accorded to Ugandans by the constitution.
