While appearing on NBS TV’s Frontline, Mao said that it takes nothing away to emphasize the party’s achievements.
However, it also takes nothing away by Ugandans emphasizing their expectations. He proceeded to say that whereas the government has tried to do it’s work, the end result has always been nothing.
He cited an example of the reduction in illiteracy levels. Mao the said that although this has been done, the education system breeds nothing into the learners.
“We gain nothing by failing to see what the NRM has done, but we also gain nothing by not emphasizing our expectations. The NRM has moved the people from shooting birds to the classroom where they learn nothing,” Mao said.
Mao also added that the President has lost trust in public service. It’s for this reason that he employs the military in almost everything.
Mao’s fellow panelist Kiira Municipality MP, Ssemujju Nganda said that Museveni is the root cause of the public system failure. This is because the NRM chairman doesn’t follow rules and procedures.
Ssemujju said that when Museveni is displeased by something, he makes sure he turns it into his personal property. And according to the FDC spokesperson, a leader should set rules that he himself follows.
“Augustin Luzindana told me Mr. Museveni wanted a bull from the government farm when he had just gotten to power. He was told the procedure, and he opted for the open market. Today the farms are his.
I want us to go back to that Museveni who followed the procedure. When you are a leader, you must set standards and follow those standards. Last time in Kayunga, he said it is right because NRM says so. You saw the cries from there,” Hon Ssemujju Nganda said.
The MP added that Museveni pretends to be a democratic leader yet he’s the opposite. It’s the reason he organizes elections, spends money and orders the army to beat up people.
