NUP Maintains There Is Democracy In Uganda

The National Unity Platform (NUP) has come out to once again reveal that there is democracy in Uganda.

While appearing on the NBS Barometer show, NUP’s deputy spokesperson, Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro confirmed this. He said that as a party, they want to use this democracy to unseat the ruling government.

Further, Mufumbiro said that it’s the democracy in this country that can lead to a peaceful transition of power. He also said that as the opposition, they are trying to save the people who are already on fire.

“We have democracy in this country, and it’s democracy that can lead to a peaceful change of power. We want to unseat the dictator who has jeopardized democracy. We’re not setting people on fire. People are already on fire,” said Mufumbiro.

It should be recalled that 3 years ago, NUP’s leader Bobi Wine lambasted Dr Kizza Besigye for saying there is no democracy in Uganda.

Bobi Wine said that someone cannot stand 4 times and then claim that there is no democracy in the country. Indeed he went ahead to stand against President Museveni and lost in the 2021 General elections.

Kyagulanyi has since then come out to severally attack Museveni for abusing democracy in Uganda. According to the self-styled ghetto president, Museveni has made democratic rule a mockery in the country.

Several opposition parties met at Africana

Earlier this week, a number of Opposition parties met at Hotel Africana. These included FDC, NUP, PPP, JEEMA among others. They agreed on a number of resolutions.

These included the belief that elections won’t cause a change in Uganda. They should rather be used to spark people and ignite them to liberate themselves.

It’s therefore a surprise to see that the party still believes in democracy. Yet for long now they have said that it’s absent in Uganda and a ‘dictator’ who used a gun to grab power can’t be ousted via an election.
