Parliament Maintains Its Stand On The Nyege Nyege Festival

On the Nyege Nyege fesitival, the Speaker of Parliament, Hon Anita Among in the recent Parliamentary session revealed that the August House is maintaining its stand on the Nyege Nyege Festival.

Parliament this week aroused controversy and fury amongst Ugandans after they announced a ban on the yearly festival which is slated to happen next week in Jinja at Itanda Falls.

Parliament while delivering their decree said that this event is a hub of immorality, especially sexual immorality. They therefore wouldn’t allow it to take place.

However, hardly even a day past their decree, the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja canceled the Parliamentary orders. She said that the festival will take place no matter what although with a few conditions.

However, Among has now reiterated Parliament’s earlier stance. She said that nobody should think of ruling Parliament as long as she’s still around.

According to Among, she was not happy that the Executive arm of government decided to interfere and undermine the Legislature.

Among therefore maintains that the decision they made will still stand.

“One thing I want to remind this house is that nobody will ever run this house so long as I’m the speaker. If you think you’re going to overrun the Parliament of Uganda, you will not do it. I’m elected by 415 MPs. The decision of this Parliament on Nyege nyege stands. The Executive should do its part. As for us, we made our pronouncement,” a tough and serious looking Among said.

This, therefore, leaves question marks hanging about this event. However, as of now, the event is expected to go ahead as earlier scheduled.

Meanwhile, while appearing on NBS TV’s Frontline program, former Ethics minister Miria Matembe amused viewers when she said that this event is satanic.

Of course, everyone has been bashing it for being evil but Matembe added in a little flavour in her submission.

She revealed that the Nyege Nyege Festival could even be the reason Uganda is facing the challenges it’s going through.

Besides, the devil works through water and the Festival is at a water source, Source of the Nile. According to her, that water where the event will happen is demonic.
