Drinking Spree Ends In Tragedy As Police Arrests 15 People At Friends Bar

Police have raided Friends Bar located in Nakasero and arrested 15 people who flouted COVID-19 guidelines of drinking alcohol during day time without observing social distancing and failure to wear masks.

The operation was carried out today at midday. Suspects currently are detained at Central Police Station Kampala on two charges of doing acts that are likely to cause the spread of infectious diseases, disobedience of lawful orders contrary to section 171 and 127 of the Penal Code Act.

Below are mixed reactions from Facebook users

1). With exception of social distancing, curfew time starts at 2100hrs to 0530hrs and one cannot drink alcohol with a mask on the mouth. Ever since lockdown started, beer factories never closed. Meaning that they kept on producing beer and it must be consumed. Not only in Nakasero that people take booze. Several other places are doing the same. Please give them a second chance!!

2). But you can’t wear a mask as you drink. Anyways is that bond7 still in your custody!

3). Naye police mulimba. Alcohol is one of the major sanitizers. Use common sense while arresting people.. Stooooop wasting my Time typing

4). There is no police in Mbarara? where bars operate freely and night clubs are also open?

5).  Oh you also arrested the crates of beer.

This is not the first time police is arresting people gathered in drinking places since the pandemic lockdown, many have been arrested and detained for flouting coronavirus guidelines within the past four months.
