Police Deploys Heavily With Claims Of Planned Riots For Today By NUP

Uganda Police has deployed its men after allegedly getting information on planned riots scheduled to start today. Kampala Metropolitan Deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire released a statement last evening. It confirms that they got information that NUP plans to start riots today.

“We have received information from credible sources that a section of opposition politicians are planning nationwide violent demonstrations and riots beginning with Kampala Metropolitan area tomorrow,(which is today)”

Owoyesigyire, said the people planning riots are using social media to mobilise people. He however notes that they will deal with these people as the law demands.

“We have deployed strategically to counter these illegal acts and we are continuing with vigilance. We want to warn the organizers of these unlawful demonstrations to desist from participating in any unlawful activities. The police will not hesitate to arrest and charge in courts of law anyone, who will be found participating in these illegal activities.” He said.

Posters have been pinned around different spots in Kampala by a group known as ‘the time is now’. They claim that Robert Kyagulanyi won the election despite EC announcing President Museveni winner. Apparently their plan is to cause havoc before the inauguration of Museveni. Some of the areas with these posters include; Kampala, Wakiso, Masaka, and Rakai.
