Police have been issued with new orders on how they’ll manage all those apprehended over failure to wear face masks.
The same directives are relevant to those violating partial lockdown and curfew. Field police officers have been instructed to file daily returns on the offences to the police head office to be dealt with.
This came after the instruction by the Health Ministry on several measures to be followed to enable it to curb the rapid spread of the deadly virus.
In a similar way, setting up roadblocks to make sure no movement of cars and human beings after the beginning of 7pm curfew hours except the vital service providers who were exempted.
All individuals and cars found flouting the instructions will be arrested, detained and charged with violating curfew orders,’internal memo reads in part.
The officers were issued with a format they should follow while recording suspects beginning with people who are not wearing face masks or those failing to wear them properly by name and age. All those violating curfew orders, cars affected as well as action taken.
Many have been arrested and will be arraigned in court very soon.
The orders came prior to president Kenyatta’s 21 day lockdown extension as the country’s coronavirus cases increase on a daily basis, with 49 samples tested positive on Saturday. Kenya was forced to close it’s borders with Tanzania and Somalia as a way to limit the spread of covid-19 pandemic.
