The President made the comments while congratulating the Uganda Cranes who had defeated the Rwandan National football team at St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.
Uganda Cranes registered a 1-0 win to complete a doubleheader over neighbors Rwanda. This is ahead of the ongoing 2022 Qatar World Cup qualifiers.
President Museveni said that the Cranes used the right tactics since the goal had came from a corner. He added that he knew these tactics because he used to be a footballer as way back as 1966.
“I congratulate the national football team on this victory. They used the right tactics and our goal came from a corner kick. I know these tactics because I used to be a footballer until (1966) when I changed focus from sports to the struggles of our politics,” Mr Museveni tweeted.
This was much to the amusement of his followers who called him a man of all trades.
Meanwhile, the hard ground win left Uganda in the second position on 8 points, two behind Mali. The West African side lead Group E on 10 points after also winning the doubleheader against Kenya.
The qualifiers will resume in November with Uganda taking to another East African derby hosting Kenya. Mali on the other hand will visit Rwanda before hosting Uganda three days later.
Although the Cranes won, a number of Ugandans aren’t happy with the playing style of Micho’s side. They say that the Cranes play unattractive disorganized football.
This was after Rwanda’s Amavubi stars outplayed Uganda and always looked a threat in possession.
The boys were however able to hold off the pressure guarding the goal scored by Israel-based Ugandan striker Fahad Bayo in the 22nd minute.
