These talks were aimed at finding a peaceful solution to the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia. Zelesnkyy revealed that these were the first bilateral talks between the two countries.
Apparently, the Ukrainian President outlined his country’s peace initiatives to the UN. Museveni and him also discussed the development of bilateral relations between their respective countries.
“I was pleased to have the first conversation in the history of bilateral relations with President of Uganda @KagutaMuseveni. I have outlined the Ukrainian peace initiatives at the UN. We also discussed the potential for the development of bilateral relations,” he revealed via his Twitter page.
It should be recalled that a delegation from Brazzaville Foundation is currently undertaking peaceful talks between Russia and Ukraine. This is led by the former Ugandan Prime Minister, Rt Hon Amama Mbabazi.
The delegation met with high-level representatives of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. And in December 2022, they met the Russian Federation in Moscow.
This war meanwhile has lasted a year now having started early last year. Zelenskyy seems to be more open to a peaceful resolution than he was a while ago.
Museveni on the other hand has proved to be an influential figure in trying to restore peace in destabilized nations.
