Presidential Address Moved About Lockdown Moved To Friday From Saturday

The Office of the Prime Minister has announced the presidential address which was supposed to be on Saturday 31st has been moved to Friday 30th July 2021.

President Museveni declared a 42-day lockdown in June and it is slated to end on the 30th of July 2021.

It was earlier reported that the President would make the much awaited address on Saturday.

However, according to Prime Minister Rt Hon Robinah Nabbanja, the date has been switched to coincide with the end of the lockdown.

The PM asked people to remain vigilant of the SOPs as they wait for this speech.

“H.E The President will address the Nation on #COVID19 this Friday July 30, 2021 at 08:00pm. In the meantime, stay calm and continue observing SOPs and other Presidential directives.” PM Nabbanja posted on her Twitter page.

A large section of the public hopes that the president will lift this lockdown. It has subjected them to the worst of conditions especially financial.

Most sectors call upon the president to ease the lockdown restrictions.

Despite the government having come out to assist vulnerable people financially, many people missed out and this relief package.

Businesses, academic institutions, sports activities among others are some of the sectors that have been affected massively.

The parliamentary COVID-19 taskforce however a few days advised the President not to lift the lockdown

They say the restrictions had curbed down the spread of the pandemic.

Therefore lifting it will only jeopardize the progress that they have achieved so far.

They added that the government should only lift lockdown once 50% of the population has been vaccinated.

However, the government is still stuck on where to get money to purchase the vaccines that can vaccinate that 50%. Let us wait and see if this upcoming presidential address will rescue Ugandans.
