Protesters Gather Outside US Embassy In Nairobi Over George Floyd’s Death

Dozens of protesters rallied outside the US embassy in Nairobi, Kenya on Tuesday to protest over the murder of a black man (George Floyd) in Minnesota’s major city Minneapolis .

The murder of unarmed black man has fired up a worldwide movement against police violence, racism and inequality.

The protesters, including Kenyans and Americans, marched in unity with American protesters shouting ’Black lives matter’.

The demonstrators demanded for accountability from United States embassy in law enforcement both within the country and overseas.

The US Ambassador to the republic of Kenya Hon Kyle McCarter received a statement from protesters raising concern over heinous acts from police officers and appealed to leaders to take action and change laws in both Kenya and United States.

George Floyd was murdered by a police officer empowered by the government you serve, who acted with the knowledge that the system will protect his actions and condemn Floyd. “This perpetuates the narrative that a black body is a threat and its destruction is not only understood, but expected,” the statement read.

In response to this morning protests, Ambassador Kyle said the government of United States is working so hard to make sure George Floyd gets justice.

The actions of the officers involved in the killing of George Floyd were poor and must result to justice and accountability to those involved. The voices of the American people, mine included, reflect their horror and anger at the repugnant acts of these officers. The police involved have been arrested, investigations are ongoing and I am confident that justice will prevail,” he said.

They also criticized Kenyan police officers over illegal killings of people and unnecessary use of force when enforcing coronavirus guidelines.
