Veteran singer Ronald Mayinja has advised young artists to ensure they grow with their audience. The former Eagles Production boss said that the reason why he and singers of his era managed to get large numbers at concerts was because they transitioned with their audience.
He added that this is why a singer must choose the lyrics of the songs he/she does carefully. This is due to the fact that this fan base will reach a time and outgrow that type of music. Therefore, an artist must learn to adjust with time.
“We’ve grown our audience, that’s why we are able to grow our numbers at the concerts. I urge the younger generation of artists to think carefully about their lyrics before releasing any song. Consider the message you want to convey. Is your music meant to resonate with the heart or spark the mind?”
Additionally, the Mama Doreen singer talked about the current state of politics. He has always been a vocal point through his music about the state of leadership in the country.
Mayinja said that today’s Parliament has become a circus. According to him, the legislators’ house is always entangled in a lot of drama. It therefore seems that Ugandan politics has become a form of dramatic entertainment.
“Parliament now resembles a stage, with politicians engaging in theatrical performances like us artists. Political parties are increasingly entangled in dramatic displays. It seems politics has become a form of drama.” he said.
Furthermore, Mayinja revealed that he didn’t expect his 2007 released Africa song to become so big. He was surprised by it as he sang about the state of leadership back then.
Luckily for him, the song is still relevant till now because the same things are still happening.
