Police in Rubirizi District are investigating the circumstances under which a 21-year-old, Deus Kiiza hanged himself in his mother’s house on Tuesday, December 5th, 2023. Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident.
He also identified Kiiza as a resident of Nyakatunga II cell, Mugyera Parish, Katanda Sub County.
According to Tumusiime, Kiiza left home around 9:00 AM for Katerera Town. He later returned home but then went off again, leading his sisters to believe he was going to his own house. Tragically, they soon discovered him hanging dead in the living room of his mother’s house.
Julius Katarihwa, the 48-year-old chairman of the Nyakatunga cell, revealed that Kiiza had threatened to harm his family members, especially his mother. This behavior allegedly stemmed from their attempts to prevent him from selling the family land.
He further mentioned that Kiiza had a history of substance abuse. This included drugs and alcohol, which had strained his family relationships.
A post-mortem examination is underway at Rugazi Health Center IV in Rubirizi District. Police are also actively investigating the case to determine the factors leading to Kiiza’s suicide.
