This is when a group of five men including a police officer at the rank of assistant superintendent, a UPDF officer with pistols and other civilians who were travelling in a super custom vehicle with MK Army number plates robbed $317,900 ( 1.1 billion shillings) at Nakirebe along Kampala-Masaka road.
Namutebi said when the victims of the robbery reported the matter, police kicked off investigations. They got footage from a CCTV camera, and intelligence which led to the arrest of four suspects.
The four have been identified as Lubega Moses, Nuwagaba Josephat, Kyomuhendo Richard and ASP James Kakana the former OC station for Namayingo police station.
She noted that on arrest, the suspects admitted participating in the robbery. A search in their homes led to the recovery of the vehicle Super Custom model registration number UAW 187 that was used in the robbery.
The car had been disguised with a sticker. Detectives also found another vehicle, a Subaru registration number UBN 291 A. This was bought using the stolen money. Household items including sofa sets, TV sets, cooking utensils and other items were also recovered.
Namutebi said the senior police officer was later arrested from Nansana in Wakiso. This is where he was hiding after escaping arrest at his station in Namayingo.
She noted that police will follow up the matter until the suspects get the deserved punishments.
