Sheikh Ramadhan Mubajje, the Mufti of Uganda has weighed in on the situation under which Arts teachers are teaching. He advised the government to incorporate all teachers in the new salary scheme.
Mubajje said that if the government cannot pay the teachers equally, then it should just phase out all arts subjects.
He faulted the current scheme for having a policy that is in favor of only the science teachers which is unfair treatment.
He made the remarks as Muslim faithful in Uganda joined the rest worldwide to commemorate the Eid Adhuha.
As he addressed Muslims during the celebrations, he said that these inequalities will definitely be disastrous yet they could be avoided.
“It is disheartening to hear that arts teachers are crying for salary increment and yet it was not their fault that they trained in arts because they trained in government institutions. So, let the government phase out arts in schools gradually, if not so, let all teachers be paid reasonably because they serve the nation,” said Mubajje.
Sheikh Ramadhan Mubajje went ahead to update the Muslim fraternity about the unity drive rolled out some time ago with some Muslim leaders. These were Sheikh Obeid Kamulegeya, the former Chief Kadhi of Uganda; Sheikh Muhammad Yunus Kamoga, the Nakasero Mosque based Amiir Ummah and Sheikh Saliman Kasule Ndirangwa, the former supreme mufti at the Kibuli based faction.
He said the drive is still on course and is definitely running well.
He further said the drive has encouraged calmness in the Muslim community resulting in drawing a draft UMSC constitution.
Mubajje reminded Muslims to get prepared to participate in the forthcoming UMSC national elections. During these, they will elect committees for village mosques, counties, districts, regions, the executive, and general assembly.
The purpose of those will be to strengthen unity for a viable UMSC that will survive generations to come.
