The lady, whose name were withheld, wrote to the New York Times seeking advice after her mum’s shocking confession put her at risk with her sister.
The woman said their mom admitted to cheating on their father for a period of 10 years, and he wasn’t aware.
“Our dad died a year ago, and our mum recently told my sister and me that she cheated on him for the last 10 years of their marriage.
I don’t think our dad ever knew; he wore his heart on his sleeve, so he couldn’t have hidden that sort of thing,” she wrote.
The lady further said that their mom said that she loved their father, but sexual relations with him wasn’t good enough.
“So she cheated. But she made sure he never found out. And my mom and dad still slept together, because she knew that he enjoyed having intimacy with her and loved her body,” she said.
The lady further stressed that whilst her sister accused their mom of never loving their father, she reacted differently.
Mother’s confession divides sisters
“My sister and I had wildly different reactions to this information. My sister is horrified. I don’t feel that it makes sense to be mad at my mom for the infidelity,” the woman said.
The woman said their different way of looking at the matter had put a wedge between her and her sister.
“I feel I am missing something in not being upset at my mother. But, to be clear, I don’t think she should have told us because there was no reason to. But I am trying to think about whether the infidelity itself was wrong,” she confessed.
