Soccer player known as Bassel Saad, was given a red card and was sentenced on Friday to at least 8 years in prison for punching a Detroit-area referee to death. The death of the referee John Bieniewicz was meaningless and senseless, his wife, Kris Bieniewicz, told the judge. “It’s obviously a game. It’s a game that we always teach our children as soon as they begin walking.”
This 36-year-old soccer player, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, admitting he punched Bieniewicz during a game on friday at a Livonia park and he died two days later. Bieniewicz 44, was just about to call a penalty that could have thrown out the Dearborn auto mechanic, he was charged with secondary degree murder.
This soccer player was too emotional!
Saad, 37, will be paroled after serving eight years in prison. The greatest punishment is 15 years in prison, and there could also be a possibility to be deported after serving his sentence. He said “he prays daily for the late Bieniewicz family including his two kids and he is hoping that one day they will find a place in their hearts to forgive him,”Saad said.
Saad’s sentence was inclusive with the terms of a plea deal and was ordered to pay $9.200 for funeral expenses as an initial charge of his murder case. The relatives and family members of the late Bieniewicz are very sad and heart-broken and we continue to feel the grief of his death, said Bieniewicz’s mother, Barbara Bieniewicz.”
Let us hope other players with the same character will learn from him!
