Many lives are lost or changed on the miserable side due to accidents. How do they occur? A quick loss of control on the rider’s part eventually leads to a collapse of two or more vehicles, causing injuries, both minor or fatal depending on the threshold of the collision. One of the most important things in an automobile that largely helps in this sphere is suspension.
What is suspension?
It is the system of tires, linkages, shock absorbers and springs that are a connection between the wheels and the automobile itself. It is basically the support system of the automobile. It ensures safety and stability when one is riding the vehicle.
Why is it necessary?
Without this system, any automobile would be bouncing all the ride long without a concept of balance and stability. When these two factors are not present in a vehicle, it becomes highly impossible for the rider to be able to control the acceleration, steering and braking: the three main controls of a vehicle.
Ever wondered while riding or travelling in a car how there is very little or no bumpy turbulence even while crossing a speed breaker on the road? That is where the suspension system works its way around. The base of the vehicle is duly attached to the wheels of the vehicle, with the necessary attachments like the springs and shock absorbers being accurately linked. The springs act as a device that allows the vehicle to mimic a “bounce” in accordance with the surface of the roads, but this does not reach the vehicle as this bounce is rebound by the shock absorbers, thereby making the vehicles stay on the ground instead of bouncing away. A strong and well-functioning suspension proportionally provides a smooth, safe and luxurious control over the vehicle.
Unfortunately, it is proven that in most dangerous accidents, it is often a failure of the suspension system that eventually leads to the lack of control that causes the accident. While there are secondary factors that one might consider when road safety and prevention of accidents is concerned, vehicle maintenance is one of the crucial factors that is often overlooked in the prospect of safety. Maintaining and decorating a vehicle for the way it is wanted to look and feel are often overestimated, and the necessary parts are underlooked.
When does the system need a change or a repair?
Some of these would be quite noticeable when one is riding or travelling in a car:
- Wear pattern on tires: probably caused by uneven bounces
- A drifting or floating sensation while steering in the two directions
- Vehicle may slightly rock back and forth after the application of a brake
There might be a few others that can also suggest that immediate care is required for the automobile to function efficiently. Being proactive about good car care and never putting it off is always the better prevention of any mishaps, given that suspension system is the safety feature of a vehicle.
