Extensions in areas around Kamuli, Wakiso and Mukono are suitable and well-recognized for growing sweet potatoes. However, through a verbal report from Harvest Plus, a project that makes research on nutrition reveals that local varieties don’t posses essential substances used by organisms to survive, grow, and reproduce.

But as a way to over-turn that kind of situation, the National Crops Resources Research Institute has commenced to granting advanced varieties of the orange flesh sweet potatoes to farmers, which posses vitamin A and carbohydrates.

However, through a report from the Uganda National Bureau of Statistics [ UNBS ], it shows that about 30% of kids in Uganda lack Vitamin A in their bodies, and 50% of ladies under go the same deficiency among known districts like Kamuli, Wakiso and Mukono.
While talking to a professional lecturer in the department of Extension and Innovation Studies from Makerere University, Richard Miiro, he noted that this is so in many types of foods ate by people lack enough nutrients such as vitamin A which is conducive and healthy to their bodies. Therefore, foods such as sweet potatoes work best in that sector.
Project investigator at the National Crops Resources Research Institute mentioned that through study, over 22M vines were dispersed in 3 districts summing up a total of 657 hectares.
