The longest-serving prisoner in Ohio freed last year after spending 39 years in jail for a murder he did not commit, the court records show that he will be given more than $1 million from the state for his wrongful imprisonment.

“Wow, that’s wonderful , Ricky 58 told the Cleveland Plain Dealer, after when he was told that he could receive more than a $ million-dollar payment following an order from the Ohio court of claims. “This is incredible. This will mean so much to me.
Mr Ricky was only 19 years when he was convicted along with three best friends who were sentenced to death in 1975 for murdering a money order salesman in the area of Cleveland, after a 12-year-old boy testifying that he saw the killing.
The young boy, Eddie Vernon testified years later, and told authorities he had never actually witnessed the crime, other witnesses confirmed that the young Ricky was on the school bus during the time of killings, Therefore, there was no other evidence connecting Ricky to the killing, however Ricky was initially sentenced to death but all over a sudden he escaped simply because of paperwork error and appeals which delayed the process.
Wiley and Ronnie Bridgeman are the two brother who were freed in 2002 and 2003 after 26 and 27 years behind bars, Bridgeman was later imprisoned again for a probation violation, he was released in December soon after Ricky Jackson after all charges were dismissed by court.

Ricky was released from prison after a long campaign by the Ohio Innocence Project. finally the 3 men were cleared by a judge after Eddie Vernon having signed an affidavit last year saying he lied, he was constrained by police into testifying against them.
The court of claims of Ohio ordered the state to pay Mr Ricky Jackson the sum of $1,008,055 for spending almost 39 years behind bars. The 2 brothers, Wiley and Ronnie Bridgeman will also be compensated for spending years in prison.
