Here are some of the topmost outrageous and nefarious frauds from the past few months.
‘Vaccination is optional.’
The French government made proof of vaccination to enter cafes and other public places mandatory this month. This gave birth to the flourishment of a black market making euros off of selling fake health passes.
Head to social media app Snapchat and type in ‘’fake health pass’’ and hey presto.
There are many accounts that do not last more than a few days and they openly advertise counterfeit documents. Among the ads, you see, ‘’Vaccination is optional thanks to our service’’ or, ‘’Say no to the vaccine and get a health pass without getting vaccinated.’’ These are the advertisements.
In Russia, forgers making fake vaccination certificates are also thriving.
At least 800 people were vaccinated in Uganda using a fake vaccine jab last month. This scam involved ‘’unscrupulous’’ doctors and health workers who targeted people who wanted to pay for the vaccine. This included corporate employees who were asked to pay between $25-$120 for a fake shot.
Just Water.
A bigger-scale scam in India’s capital Mumbai in June had 2000 victims of fraud. They also thought they were being vaccinated yet they were actually injected with shots of saline solution.
Criminal Cremation.
Five gang members in the Indian city of Agra donned full protective gear to cremate a man they had murdered. They therefore pretended he had died from Covid-19 in a morbid case that came to light in June.
‘’To avoid being caught… they wore a PPE kit and used a body bag to pack and transport the body to the cremation ground,’’ police said.
Uncivil Servant.
A man posing as a civil servant with a master’s degree in genetics got arrested in Kolkata in Southern India. The man illegally run as many as eight spurious vaccination camps. They injected at least 250 people with disabilities and transgender people at one site.
Anti-wrinkle cream Fraudsters
These ones were selling fake doses of Pfizer’s vaccine for as much as $2,500 a shot had earlier been nabbed in Poland and Mexico. The fake vials were stored in beer coolers in a Mexico clinic. Meanwhile, in Poland, the confiscated doses were stored in a cosmetic substance thought to be anti-wrinkle cream.
