Tororo District: Man Shot Dead For Attacking, Injuring Police Officer During Arrest

The Police in Tororo District have shot and killed a 26-year-old man identified as Godfrey Odoi for allegedly attacking and injuring a police officer on duty.

Odoi, a resident of Poti cell in Iyolwa Town Council, was involved in a confrontation with Francis Musamali, the officer in charge of Iyolwa police post in the eastern district on Tuesday.

Reports indicate that Odoi hacked Musamali with a machete on the head. An altercation had ensued when Musamali, alongside the area LC 1 chairperson, attempted to counsel Odoi, who had threatened to harm his 10-year-old brother using a machete.

After injuring the OC, Odoi attempted to flee but was apprehended by locals. During the apprehension, he allegedly tried to harm the OC again, prompting the police to intervene. In an attempt to disarm him, the officer shot Odoi in the leg.

Mr Mose Mugwe, the Bukide South police spokesperson, confirmed the incident. He stated that Odoi succumbed to his injuries due to excessive bleeding while being transported to Tororo district Hospital.

Mugwe explained that Odoi’s body is lying at Tororo Hospital mortuary pending postmortem examination.
