Transport Fares Crawling Back To Normal Price Today After Transport Being Fully Opened

President Museveni during his speech on Friday directed transport facilitators to carry 100% capacity again as the norm had been. This is good news to both the facilitators and the customers because it means a lot of things.

This means especially for the customers, transport fares are going to reduce. For the facilitators, they will not have to wrestle to officers anymore due to numbers.

However, there are so many strings attached to this opening of the economy. Most importantly, customers must have vaccination cards before getting into cars.

This means those who are not vaccinated will not have access to transport. The question is, how this is the government going to effectively implement this? This is because some vaccinated people don’t actually have cards.

For this reason, taxi and bus operators have called out to the traffic officers to work with them. Some have suggested having checkpoints where they could ascertain whether cards are authentic because that too is an issue.

Anyone can easily duplicate a card and if someone is not keen enough, they may not notice. So, perhaps indeed transport facilitators need help.

Meanwhile, the president gave this directive which some traffic officers seem not to have heard.

They are arresting taxis that are carrying full capacity despite it being legal now. The president should perhaps provide guidance on this.
