Tweeting Is Not One Of Africa’s Problems- Museveni

Despite signing into law the Computer Misuse Act last week, President Museveni has revealed that tweeting is not one of Africa’s biggest problems. This is after the President was asked about his son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s recent Twitter tirade.

Muhoozi in a series of tweets said that it would take him just two weeks together with his army to capture Nairobi. Museveni came out and apologized on behalf of his son through his Twitter page. This wasn’t the first or last time that the ex-commander of land forces is posting erratic controversial tweets.

While speaking to Kenyan journalist Sophia Wanuma, Museveni was questioned whether he would have issued the same apology had it been any other military/government official or if the law works differently with Muhoozi. Museveni replied by saying that Africa has got a lot of problems. And as much as he’s aware, tweeting is not among them.

The President added that his son will immediately leave Twitter. This is a discussion they have had although the platform is not a problem but rather what one tweets.

“Africa has got a lot of problems. Tweeting is not one of them. Muhoozi will leave Twitter. We have had this discussion. Twitter, however, is not a problem. The problem is what you are tweeting,” said President Museveni.

In regard to his son’s presidential aspirations, Museveni said that leaders are not elected on Twitter. Anyone who is interested in leadership will have to be audited first to determine whether they are a time bomb or not. The President said that the current number of Ugandans stands at 44 million. These will therefore decide what they want as they are abundant.

Museveni also denied allegations of DP president Nobert Mao that their agreement had a peaceful transition clause in it. He said that that is Mao’s approach but they didn’t discuss it anywhere.
