The 25 year old mother Ngugi Julia of 2 and Ms Wanja Winjoy, 27, a mother of 3, who are reportedly married to 2 brothers, informed court that they agreed to circumcise each other using a sharp razor blade purposely to safeguard their children from generational curse which was terrifying their lives.

They narrated that their forefather at their home had strongly marked a curse before her death, declaiming that all women who are married into the family should be circumcised if not, their children would face death.

They further more explained that the spirit of their husband’s great grandma has been visiting them on several occasions during the night in dreams asking them to simply choose between getting circumcised or letting their children to die.

We therefore chose to cut off the foreskin of our genitals to avoid losing our children due to a family curse, ‘said Ms Winjoy.

Julia and Wanja are not the first people to be sent to prison because of female genital mutilation (FGM) practice, even in September this year, 5 women were sentenced to three years in jail or pay a fine of Ksh200,000 for circumcising or undergoing FGM.
