Uganda Rugby Union Enlists Renowned Coaches To Elevate National Teams

Uganda Rugby Union (URU) has recently enlisted the expertise of two highly experienced consultant coaches, Bronson Weir and Nollis Marais, both hailing from South Africa. They will be working closely with the Uganda Rugby Cranes and Uganda Women’s 7s national teams, aiming to enhance their performance and capabilities.

Bronson Weir has already commenced his coaching duties by conducting the first training session with the Lady Rugby Cranes 7s at Kyadondo Rugby Club.

On the other hand, Nollis Marais is expected to join the team shortly, further solidifying the coaching support for the Rugby Cranes.

Bronson Weir brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as the head coach for Burkina Faso men’s 7s and XVs national teams.

His coaching journey includes significant contributions to the South Africa Rugby Union and coaching roles with the Nigeria and Kenya national teams.

Similarly, Nollis Marais boasts a fifteen-year coaching career primarily within the Blue Bulls Rugby Franchise in Pretoria, South Africa, showcasing his expertise in developing rugby talent.

Building on past engagements

Weir’s history with Uganda dates back to the early 2010s, where he played pivotal roles in coaching the men’s senior 7s and the U-19 Rugby Cranes during prestigious tournaments like the Rugby World Cup 7s and the Commonwealth Games.

Marais, on the other hand, has honed his coaching skills through guiding teams such as UP Tuks and Blue Bulls U-21, demonstrating his ability to nurture rugby talent at various levels.

The Uganda Rugby Union plans to officially announce these coaching appointments in the near future, underscoring their commitment to elevating the performance of the national teams through strategic coaching initiatives.
