Ugandan Journalists Cry Out As They Celebrate World Press Freedom Day

Ugandan Journalists have cried out to security officers saying journalism is not a crime. Most of them have used social media to air out their concerns.

Today, the press is celebrating World Press Freedom day and probably most of them saw it fit to use this day to speak up.

“And to the Police which continues to beat journalists, I have said this countless times. If you believe that what you are doing is right, you wouldn’t mind the cameras,” Daniel Lutaaya of NBS tweeted.

“The press is nothing without freedom, and society is nothing without the press. As the voice of society, journalism can never be silent.” NTV Uganda Tweeted.

The Ugandan Journalists also went ahead and told politicians and the public to allow them do their work as they should.

“Politicians. Don’t attack us for asking questions. A political party is a public organization, receiving and using public funds. If you have nothing to hide, you wouldn’t mind the audit. And by the way, FDC is just the start… tugenda nyumba ku nyumba ba dia😉,” Daniel Lutaaya tweeted.

Some journalists led by Gabriel Buule also called out their bosses to start paying them as they ought. Apparently, some journalists have gone six months without pay especially on beginning stations.

However, they have also been encouraged to add value to themselves by going back to school, dressing excellently among others.
