Since 2nd July 2018, Ugandans have been fuming over the newly introduced two hundred shillings tax for social media users in the country, according to Nile Post.
During his speech on Wednesday, president Museveni clearly said that there will be a reduction of 0.5% on mobile money transaction tax, however, he insisted that Uganda does not have to keep on borrowing huge amount of money from the developed countries when there’s availability of sources to generate revenue locally.
He further said, there has been a miscommunication concerning mobile money transaction tax in different connections written between the month of March and June 2018, but the president wasn’t available to oppose the 1% tax.
As a matter of fact, he passionately justified it during his State of the Nation address last month of June.
Regarding social media, Museveni said all decent reasons are in favor of this tax, however, social media users have no right to misuse the dollars I get from my Milk, Coffee etc by continuing to donate money to foreign telecom companies through exchange of message in a chat talk or even lying.
