“I first heard it from Minister Judith Nabakooba and then Maj. Gen. Lokech. I don’t know about those messages. If anyone is aggrieved, they should seek legal means for redress. As a party, we believe in non-violent means in whatever we do. They are trying to associate them with our party and other political parties but they are baseless,”
This came after the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Paul Lokech on Monday warned those planning to protest. He said they got information that a shutdown was being plotted to let protests go on.
“We are aware of individuals and groups promoting panic and fear through social media using videos and audio messages. We’re not taking some of these messages lightly. We have a very robust force ready to deal with any situation,” Loketch said
On the contrary, Joel Senyonyi said the government might have plotted this. The NUP spokesperson added that he just won’t be surprised if the government is involved.
“They are very capable of doing these things. If they could plant guns(in Arua) and trump-up charges, they are capable of doing anything.”
According to the rumors, the planned protests were supposed to take effect today, 3rd to 7th January 2021. Amazingly, nothing has happened yet.
