Unfortunately, the opposition always waits for election period before they come together. According to Besigye though, opposition has failed to realize that elections will never change anything in this country.
He says he was a victim of this as well until he woke up to the realization that elections can’t change a thing.
“What has undermined unity is elections. We still have many people who believe elections can cause change. Myself, I had the same view in 2001 and 2006. I also believed the courts would work. Elections can’t liberate us. We made up our minds that elections were futile, but there are many- especially those who hold offices- who still believe elections can deliver us,” he said.
Meanwhile, he pointed out the fact that opposition like NRA those days has a lot of betrayers. However, he says when opposition learns to isolate such people, then it will be good for them.
“During NRA war, there were many betrayers. However, once we are properly organized, with disciplinary measures to isolate and discipline betrayers, we shall be fine,” he said.
For this reason, Besigye says they need a new strategy, besides elections, that will liberate Ugandans.
In other news by NEWSLEXPOINT.com, policy analyst, Godber Tumushabe, said Uganda can never have a free and fair election as long as Museveni is still president.
He said people should observe and watch how they are going to make electoral reforms as we approach 2026. Apparently, they passed the age limit bill as the country was approaching the 2021 elections.
