Ruto has however come out to provide an update about their relationship. And it doesn’t seem rocky as assumed.
Taking to his Twitter page, Ruto revealed that he had a phone conversation with his ‘boss’ Uhuru Kenyatta. The duo talked about a number of issues.
Among these included the just recently concluded general election. They also talked about the transition as envisaged by their democratic tradition and practice.
“I had a telephone conversation with my boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta. We discussed the just concluded General Election and the transition as envisaged by our democratic tradition and practice,” said Ruto.
This seems like the first time the pair are actually talking ever since the campaigns for the Presidency began and the election got concluded. It doesn’t need rocket science to know that Uhuru was clearly backing Raila Odinga in this election.
This was evident the moment Odinga joined Uhuru’s camp in 2018. And this saw him get endorsed by the 4th president of Kenya in the campaigns. Odinga’s closeness with Uhuru is one thing that fractured the relationship of Ruto and his boss.
The two were said to be at loggerheads as Uhuru breached their agreement while coming to power in 2012. It would be him ruling and after the two terms, he would endorse Ruto but things took a twist along the way.
Meanwhile Ruto is set to swear in as the new president of Kenya on the 13th of September 2022.
“That date is Tuesday, September 13 and the ceremonies shall be held at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani. The date shall be a public holiday of general observance throughout the territory of the Republic.”
