“The media should not fear to hold leaders accountable. Journalists must ask the hard questions to not only those in power but the opposition as well so that they can account for their presence in public offices and usage of public resources,” he said.
Mpuuga said this while addressing journalists in Masaka city as part of his engagements with media nationwide. He says that much as it is unofficial, the media is the fourth arm of the government and their work is very important.
“We recognize the critical role the media plays as the unofficial 4th arm of the government. Therefore, we must complement one another. We encouraged them to fulfill their mandate in a fair and balanced manner.”
While speaking this, he was in the company of his shadow ministers. Joyce Bagala (Information), Gorreti Namugga (Science & ICT) and Fortunate Rose Nantongo (Gender & Labour).
He notes that as leaders there is need to work together. This will help to fight the increasing land grabbing and evictions in the area that is Masaka.
The media is undeniably very important in the government, especially if not subjective. It can trigger development by always holding leaders accountable.
This means leaders will always make it a point to always deliver ad they should.
