14 Sex Workers Arrested, Placed In Mandatory Quarantine

Fourteen commercial sex workers were among the 48 people who have been apprehended in Makueni district, Kenya for going against the government guidelines to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

A multi agency security team, commanded by County Commissioner Mr Maalim Mohammed on Monday night carried out an operation along Mombasa-Nairobi highway and arrested those people at Kanini Kaseo bar.

Among the people who were arrested at Kanini Kaseo bar at 7pm curfew hours include two customers who were found drinking and two waiters.

However, fourteen sex workers were arrested at Kilungu Lodging whereas sixteen other persons were apprehended at under 18 lodging.

During the crackdown, 3 more people were arrested within town for failing to comply with national curfew guidelines, whereas eleven others were arrested at Kola market.

All the 48 persons have been placed in quarantine facilities and after completing that form of confinement, they will be taken to court and face charges.

All individuals who defy national curfew guidelines are suspected to have been in contact with those infected with the deadly virus and are always taken in quarantine for fourteen days, according to reports from Nairobi news.
