Cheptegei Cannot Wait To Get Back On The Track

10,000-meter world champion Joshua Cheptegei will on Wednesday, May 19 be back on the track for Uganda’s next moment of glory. He will this time around compete in the 3,000 meters for the first time in the 60th Ostrava Golden Spike in the Czech Republic.

On Saturday, the world champion who is also the ambassador for Uganda Tourism Board brand flew to Ostrava. He also became quick to admit that he is looking forward to making yet another piece of history because he intends to set a record for this race.

‘’I have been preparing for the upcoming race and whereas the 3000 meters is not my speciality, I want to make history and show the world the might of the silverback. I was named silverback because of my strength and to this; I want to conquer the athletics world to become an icon,’’ Cheptegei said.

Earlier this year, Cheptegei lost the prestigious sportsman of the year gong at the Laureus Awards in Seville, Spain. LeBron James of the L.A. Lakers, Rafael Nadal a tennis legend, Lewis Hamilton the Formula One champion among other stars were Cheptegei’s competition.

He however said this is now a story of the past and is looking forward to yet another feat in the world of athletics. He believes the race in Ostrava will prepare him for the forthcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
