The long-distance runner launched a fundraising event known as #runwithCheptegei. MTN came aboard announcing they will inject 100m shillings towards this cause.
The telecommunication company had also in February this year injected another 100m shillings towards his Cheptegei foundation.
“The double Tokyo Olympic medalist Cheptegei launched a fundraising drive for a training facility and MTN has decided to give 100,000,000 shillings towards this cause. This is in addition to the 100M that we donated to Cheptegei’s foundation back in Feb.” MTN announced.
This is after MTN also awarding the Olympic medalists with millions of shillings.
Cheptegei who won gold and silver was given 75 million shillings. Shs25M was for the silver medal in the 10000m while Shs 50M was for the gold medal in the 5000m.
3000m steeplechase gold medalist Peruth Chemutai walked away with shs50m while Jacob Kiplimo walked away with Shs 10M for the bronze medal. Other Olympic athletes were awarded Shs 2M each.
The coaches got Shs 2M each while the UOC administrators got Shs 1.5M each.
This is one of the other many ways MTN has continuously supported sports in the country as a way of giving back to the community.
