Family Cancels Funeral After Body Goes Missing From Mortuary

A family in Othaya Constituency which had gone to collect the body of their relative for confinement experienced shock after the morgue failed to trace it.

They took the 77 year old to a funeral home in Nyeri for preservation awaiting burial.

According to reports, the family wanted to bury Mumbi on Tuesday, 10th November but simply cancelled.

The family had gone to the mortuary to collect their kin’s body for burial at her rural home in Gaturutu village Othaya constituency in Kenya, but the undertakers failed to locate it.

Family says body had different features;

The morgue had given the family a body they rejected saying it was different from Mumbi’s.

Wangari Loise, the daughter to the late said the physical features of her mom didn’t match those of the body which they handed over to them.

My mother was using dentures since all her teeth had gone off. They left the dentures at home when they took the body to the morgue.

 “The body they are giving is of a woman with almost all teeth on. How could we have accepted it? She asked.

The hospital which runs the mortuary facility apologized for inconveniences caused and asked for time as they investigate the issue.

As a result, the deceased’s family have demanded compensation from the hospital for the burial expenses sustained.

In separate news story by Newslex Point, Busia County police launched an investigation into the incident where 6 men were murdered by angry mourners after attending the burial of a murdered businessman.

Angry mourners turned against 6 men who appeared at the funeral of a businessman who was murdered at Butula Market in Busia County 2 weeks earlier.
