This follows the death of Gen Elly Tumwine, another class 86 graduate. Tumwine was deemed controversial for his numerous at times reckless remarks.
According to a social media user, he’s never seen Gen Koreta in any scandal. Neither has he ever seen him with a lead car nor is he arrogant. Apparently, it’s just hard to tell that he’s part of the 1986 class.
“I have never seen his name in any scandal. I have never seen him with a lead car. He is not Arrogant, it’s difficult to tell he is part of the 86 class.”
This prompted replies from other social media users who concurred with the tweet. Many went ahead to confirm that indeed Gen Ivan Koreta doesn’t have a dented public image and therefore he’s a good man among the original 27.
Some said that if he unfortunately died, Ugandans wouldn’t be jubilating like some are doing over Tumwine’s death on social media.
“I guarantee you if he passed away, Ugandans would mourn him and they would feel empathy for his family.”
However, some disagreed and said that the deeds of the others had tainted the image of all the other revolutionaries.
Gen Koreta served as the Deputy chief of the UPDF from 2005-2013. He also served as the chairman of the General Court Martial from 2006-2009.
Tumwine’s death left only 8 members alive of the original 27 NRA guerrillas who initiated the bush war that brought the current government to power.
These include Presidents Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Paul Kagame of Rwanda. The others are Julius Kihandae, Fred Mwesigye, Andrew Lutaaya, Jack Mucunguzi, George Mwesigwa and Charles Tusiime Rutarago.
