International University of East Africa (IUEA) emerged best private university exhibitor in the just concluded Higher Education Exhibition held in Kampala.
Exhibition was organized by National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) the regulatory body that supervises operations and licensing of universities and other tertiary institutions from 21st to 23rd march 2019 at Lugogo show ground under the theme: mainstreaming information communication technology in research, higher education delivery and management.
IUEA the technological university of choice won the award for presenting best science and information communication and technological innovations.
IUEA was also recognized for introducing virtual education, teaching robotics and practical skills training programmes in Africa.
“IUEA is unique high quality university that is dedicated to producing world-class graduates who are masters of their chosen fields of study and simultaneously highly employable and capable of innovating new products and building new companies as entrepreneurs,”Curthbert Atwongeire IUEA marketing coordinator noted.
“IUEA puts its emphasize on hands on practical skills learning.we also have infrastructure for the provision of higher education quality education teaching, learning research and service such as free wifi internet access throughout the campus, free laptop computers for all full-time students on degree programmes, e-library and presence of highly qualified lecturers and professors,” he added.
The exhibition provided universities one stop shop centre to showcase to the public not only what they offer but the respective innovations being undertaken.
It also provided exhibitors platform for engagement between the institutions, students, parents and policy makers on available offers.
NCHE director research Dr.Nora Mulira asked universities to put much emphasize on technology enhancement as visible strategic tool in higher delivery and research saying majority of Universities lack funding for research and development.
“The role of ICT is taking centre stage as enabler within the domain of higher education especially in delivery, management, research and innovation.As consequence many universities lack adequate research capabilities, infrastructures and facilities needed to make them active beneficiaries of global knowledge to generate or adapt knowledge, innovations and problem solving,”Mulira explained.
NCHE Executive Director Dr.Alex Kagume said NCHE as regulator of higher education in Uganda desires to have more higher education institutions become more visible in research and outreach activities. T
“The research conducted should not only be informative but should be able to unlock potentials and contribute towards societal wellbeing,”Kagume said.
